4 Polymer Pistols You Should Consider Adding to Your Gun Collection

Traditionally, typical handguns, like the 1911, are made mostly of metal. While this is good for recoil mitigation, it also increases cost and can make your handgun heavier, which are both significant considerations when concealed carrying. Today, pistols made with polymer are gaining popularity, thanks to slim, lightweight frames, even when using double-stack magazines. Plus, unlike metal, polymer pistols are highly resistant to corrosion and harsh conditions. Here are a few models you might consider adding to your gun collection.

Kahr PM9

Kel Tec CP33

Whether you want a competition-ready 22 or a handgun for firing at the range, the Kel Tec CP33 fits the bill. This firearm is named for the mind-boggling 33-round quad-stack magazine, and it comes with fiber-optic sights and a threaded barrel. While it is longer than a typical pistol, the CP33 controls like a shorter handgun and offers a longer sight radius with very minimal recoil. While an overreliance on polymer, including in the trigger, can make the CP33 feel like a toy, there is no shame in thinking of it as your range toy. Take it to the range, and have fun emptying your mag on metal targets.

Kahr PM9

For something a bit more traditional, the Kahr PM9 is a DAO hammerless, striker-fired semi-automatic with a short recoil action. Known for smooth and consistent trigger pulls, the PM series is constructed with a polymer frame that houses stainless steel slides and inserts, helping to prevent wear. The PM9 is chambered in 9x19, making it a practical option. It is easy to use and is often seen with options for night sights or a Crimson Trace laser sight.

HK VP9

While HK might be more well-known for their metal handguns, including the HK USP used by German armed forces, HK also performs well with polymer pistol models. The VP9, for example, is a striker-fired polymer-framed 9mm, the third such pistol HK has produced. It is the first to have a Picatinny rail and ambidextrous controls while also featuring a hammer-forged polygonal barrel. The changeable backstraps and grip offer 27 options for customization.

CZ P10 C

While CZ is probably most famous for its CZ 75, the CZ P10 C is the manufacturer’s entry in the striker-fired polymer frame pistol category, and it has positioned itself as a direct competitor to the extremely popular Glock 19. While it is slightly wider and heavier than a G19, the light palm swell, interchangeable backstraps, generous trigger guard undercut, and deep beavertail can be more comfortable for those with larger hands. It also boasts a smooth trigger with a clean break and short reset.
