4 Unusual Combinations of Firearm Type and Platform

Without a doubt, the familiar firearms platforms and conventions became as popular as they are for a reason. The 9mm is synonymous with semi-automatic pistols, particularly the “wonder nines.” Shotguns, regardless of manufacturer, tend to conform to familiar patterns—double-barreled, over/under, pump, and so on. However, sometimes departing from those accustomed standards and trying something new can introduce a gun enthusiast to an entirely fresh, and perhaps preferable, way to look at an old favorite.
The 9mm in a Revolver
Many of the reasons the 9mm is such an excellent cartridge for semi-automatic pistols also make it an excellent cartridge for a revolver. With a 9mm revolver, you get the unmatched variety of loads for 9mm, the lower price, and the easy availability. The 9mm can outperform the concealable revolver standard, 38 SPL, and has a very mild recoil. Wheelguns are also simpler, virtually never malfunction, and many gun owners simply prefer them to semi-autos.
The Shotgun in an AR 12
Similarly, many of the benefits of the AR 15 platform translate into benefits for the AR 12 shotgun platform. It remains modular, well-suited for aftermarket additions and modifications, and is a style that countless gun enthusiasts are familiar with. If you are a fan of the AR 15 platform, consider making your next shotgun an AR 12.
The AR 15 in 22 Nosler
If you are on the hunt for an AR 15 for sale you are probably looking to pick one up that is chambered for 223 Remington/556 NATO. Alternative cartridges like the 300 Blackout or 762x39mm are popular, but the great majority of AR 15s and upper receiver setups are chambered for one of 5 or 6 different rounds. Rarer is the AR 15 chambered for the 22 Nosler. The 22 Nosler is a cartridge that offers an incredibly high velocity but features a bullet slightly bigger than traditional speed demons like the 17 Remington or 204 Ruger. That greater size makes for greater stability, making the 22 Nosler an incredibly accurate, high-performing long-range cartridge.
The 22 Rimfire in 22 WMR
Were 22 caliber rimfire cartridges to come up, it is a near certainty that most firearms enthusiasts would think of the venerable 22 LR. There is a good reason for that, with the 22 LR being the most popular cartridge in the world. However, the 22 WMR, aka 22 Magnum, should not be overlooked. The 22 WMR is a cartridge worth getting into because it is inexpensive, produces low recoil, and offers tremendous performance.
