From Colt to Browning, there are plenty of famous American firearms. However, there are also interesting guns manufactured around the world that deserve some consideration as well. From France to the Czech Republic, South Korea to South America, here are some notable handguns made outside the U.S. that you might want to add to your collection.
CZ 75 SP 01
One of the most famous handguns from outside the U.S. is the CZ 75. There are plenty of options and derivatives, with the CZ 75 SP 01 designed and typically used as a military and law enforcement sidearm. However, it is also popular in the field of sport and target shooting. With improved manufacturing and ergonomics, including an extended beavertail, new grip geometry, and other key upgrades to separate it from past models, the CZ 75 SP 01 is an excellent addition to any gun safe.
IWI Jericho 941
Although it has gone by names like Uzi Eagle and Baby Eagle, the Jericho 941 is quite a bit different than many American handguns. It is much smaller and chambered in 9mm, 40 S&W, 41 AE, or 45 ACP. Though this firearm is based on the CZ 75, it looks like a small version of the famous Desert Eagle and is produced by the same parent company. It is currently used by Israeli Security Forces.
LeMat Revolver
If you are looking for cheap guns, you may want to skip the LeMat Revolver. Many of the other guns on this list fit into the category of relatively cheap guns, but the LeMat is rare. Designed by Jean Alexandra LeMat of France, the LeMat revolver is chambered in either 42 or 36 and also features a secondary 20 gauge barrel. It is both a revolver and small shotgun and has been known as a grapeshot revolver. While it was used during the Civil War, it came back into the public spotlight as the handgun of choice for the Man in Black of the Westworld TV series.
The Luger
Few handguns have a more distinctive cocking action than the Luger. Famously used by German soldiers in WWII, the Luger is a toggle-locked recoil-operated semi-automatic pistol that uses a jointed arm to lock. It does not have a slide action like other semi-automatic handguns, such as the 1911 or Glock 17.
Daewoo K5
While some enthusiasts consider it slightly dated, the South Korean K5 is a DA/SA handgun with a hammer. Chambered in 9mm, it holds 15 rounds and has an unusual trigger mechanism. It can be decocked while still maintaining mainspring compression. This means it has the trigger pull length of a DA trigger but the weight of an SA trigger. The K5 is the sidearm of choice for the South Korean army. Plus, it comes from a versatile manufacturer that makes everything from cars to TVs. The DP51 is the commercially exported model.
