Getting a gun safe is a big investment, and while it keeps your guns safely locked away, there are certain upgrades that you can make to improve your gun safe. Whether you want more room to hold your DPMS 308, want to protect your high-end firearms, or just want to be able to see everything, there are a few things you can do to upgrade your gun safe. Here are a few to consider.
Extra Lighting
Your gun safe might come with some lighting already, but it might not be great for shedding light on all of your firearms. A great way to upgrade your gun safe and add light is to use a strip of LED lights. If you can get power to your safe, you can simply plug them in. Otherwise, you can find battery-powered LED lights that you can easily turn on when you open the safe. You can customize the lighting to your liking, as well.
A Dehumidifier to Prevent Rust
Rust is all too common in a gun safe. You might have been wading in the water, hunting waterfowl with your Beretta A300, and neglected to make sure it was completely dry before returning it to your safe. Now it is rusted. To prevent this, pick up a dehumidifier of some sort. If you can get power to your safe, you can get a dehumidifier that plugs in and constantly works. Otherwise, you can get one that you can put in the gun safe and changes color when you need to recharge it—some need to be plugged in to recharge, while you can put others in the oven. You will need to remember to dry it out either way. Otherwise, you can use single-use packets to remove water from the air in the gun safe, but be sure to replace them regularly.
Add Extra Space on the Door
Add space to your gun safe by utilizing the door. It is often space that is not used, wasting potential. You can add a door panel that holds handguns. You can also use it for small, valuable items or important documents. Depending on your safe, the mounting method might differ, but the extra space is more than welcome.
Rifle Rods to Add Space
Rifles and shotguns can jostle together or fall out of the safe entirely when you open it. With rifle rods, you can ensure you have space while keeping your firearms safely in place. These usually attach to the top of the safe or bottom of a shelf, keeping your rifles secure and organized. Your Remington 1187 will no longer be in danger of getting scratched by other guns with rifle rods.
Magnets to Hold Mags
Finally, you might want to use magnets to hold your magazines. This is often on the back of the door, but you can also put them on the walls of the safe. The magnets are covered with a thin rubber to prevent scratches on your mags while keeping them neatly organized and ready when you need them.
