Going to the range can be fun, but if you are not prepared, you might not make much progress on your shooting skills. This is fine for blowing off steam and having fun with friends, but if you are looking to improve your speed and accuracy, there are certain items you should make sure you have with you when you go to the range. Here are some of the items you will need.

Ammo for Each Gun

Try to get in some practice with each gun that you own or plan to use in a hunting season. Bring more than enough ammo for each gun. Alternatively, bring a specific amount of ammo for each gun to ensure you have a stopping point, letting you move on to the next gun. Even when ammo is scarce, you should be able to dredge up some ammo for your CZ 75 SP 01 to practice with. Target shooting, and by extension hunting, is a skill that will degrade if you do not use it.

Targets for Specific Drills

Have a game plan for when you get to the range. Plan out which drills you want that can help you improve in areas such as drawing and firing, firing at multiple targets, and firing faster. Look online for specific targets to print out and use and information on how to run the drill.

Clay Pigeon Thrower

Shooting a simple target with an over under shotgun probably will not do much for helping your skills in hunting waterfowl flying across the sky. For that, you will want at least a box of clay pigeons and a thrower. It can be a manual thrower if you are at the range with a friend, or if you’re on your own you can use a mechanical thrower that you can trigger with your foot, or one that throws the clay pigeons automatically.

Foldable Tables for Storage and Practice

A foldable table has multiple uses when going to a range that may just be part of the wilderness. First, it is a place to put your DPMS AR 15 when it is not in use, so you do not have to have it hanging by its sling while you juggle other rifles you want to practice with. It is helpful for holding water bottles, targets that are not in use, and more. You can also practice drawing from the table, which may be part of some shooting competitions.

A Shot Timer to Track Progress

Finally, a shot timer can help you quantify how you are getting better. As you start to shoot faster, keeping a record of times from a shot timer can help you see how you are improving. During drills, you might have a goal to work towards, such as the time between drawing and the first shot or between two targets.
