If you are considering purchasing your first firearm, you might want to look for used guns for sale before checking out brand new listings. There are plenty of benefits to getting a used gun. From having more options to not having to break in your new firearm, you might consider a used gun for your first firearm. Here are a few reasons why.
It Is More Affordable
One of the major reasons people often choose a used gun first is because of its affordability. Why pay for a new Kahr PM9 when you can get one still in good condition for a discount? If the previous owner just used the gun at the range occasionally, all it might need is a good cleaning, and you are good to take it to the range yourself. You will want to be sure it is in good condition, especially if it is suspiciously affordable. Remember that some guns are sold with a note that they do not work or are broken. These are either sold as spare parts for other guns or as a project for gun owners to work on.
There Are More Options
If you decide to choose a used gun, there are often more options. There might be older versions of the gun that are no longer being manufactured, such as different calibers. You might find something that piques your interest on an online marketplace for a used gun easier than the limited options you might find in your local gun shop. You can cast a wider net and pick from nearly anything. Many firearms are now only available as previously owned, and you might not be able to find many of them unless you are looking at a shop or site that sells used guns.
It Is Probably Broken In
Some guns have a break-in period. It may take a few hundred rounds through the barrel before it settles in and has a reliable firing pattern. As such, a firearm may not be entirely accurate until then. The gun might not run smoothly, either. When you do not have to break in a gun, it means it should already run smoothly. It may need maintenance or a good cleaning and new lubrication, but it should otherwise be ready to use once you receive it.
You Might Get Extra Accessories
You may find user listings online with extra accessories to go with the used gun. It might be magazines, different optics, upgraded magazine releases, or other accessories. A holster meant for a Ruger Vaquero likely will not fit the Glock the user decided to use instead. If the items the previous user bought for their old gun are incompatible with their other guns, they might even sell it as a set. This makes it much more convenient for you, as you could get upgrades or other items you need without having to search for them.
